Winter is NOT my favorite time of year, like my plants, I slow down and don’t feel as perky or energetic. If you ask my husband though, (if he were being honest) he’d say I lose my $&!%. Last night I told him I give up on my “job” as a Mom. I’m just so over fighting kids to shower, do their homework, eat the meals I make or breaking up fights over umbrellas or the last bit of cheese in the fridge. I feel like I am always yelling, pleading or negotiating with them. I know this fire inside of them will serve them well as adults in a world that tries to get everyone to conform but dang it sure makes it hard to parent them. . My plants on the other hand, are a bit easier in winter but I do have to be aware that they are getting a bit more direct sun coming in the window because it’s at a lower angle in the sky and also the heater can dry out the soil a bit faster as well. I had slowed my watering down in anticipation that they’d need less but then realized many of my plants were bone dry 🙊 so I had to pick it back up again to about every 7-10 days. So don’t forget to check in on how quickly you plants are absorbing water this winter. . Swipe over to see this trailing beauty a year ago before she trailed at all. . #philodendronmicans#trailingplants#winteringyourplants#strongwilledchild#philodendronfanatic

My plants are always not pretty y’all! Some of them occasionally get brown tips or edges if I underwater them while other leaves turns yellow when I overwater them or if they don’t get enough nutrients etc. But its okay because it’s always a learning experience and sooner or later they’ll bounce back 🌿 My plants taught me that everything in this life is not always pretty or happy. We always have to embrace other sides or parts of it to really appreciate the beauty it has to offer! This week I challenge you to be thankful for every moment, good and the bad. ☺️ It’s almost thanksgiving y’all! #monsteramonday#monstera#monsteradeliciosa#monsteraadansonii

ETIOLATED: adjective - pale and drawn out due to a lack of light. ° This is a common problem encountered by many a plant owner, grower and seller. I received a delivery including 4 of these Echeveria Black Prince, all of which were in a similar predicament to the one pictured above. Now whilst they're not suitable for resale I thought I'd let you know what I do to fix the problem and, for those that are unsure, explain how it occurres in the first place. ° So why do plants etiolate? Well, largely this is a stress response due to inappropriate light conditions and can, in some instances, occur quite rapidly with some plants kicking out etiolated segments in only a matter of days in order to locate better light. Which is probably what occurred with these guys I received. ° What to do with a plant that is showing signs of etiolation? Some might disagree, but I find etiolation unappealing from an aesthetic point of view because it points to neglect and doesn't represent a healthy plant. Good news though, if you catch it early you can remedy and avoid it becoming too severe by adjusting the plants location to a brighter spot whilst also reducing watering and temperature (where possible and practical) to help slow the plants growth. ° What if, like the one pictured, your plant has already lost its classic shape? You'll be pleased to know there are a few options here. Sometimes plants will etiolate, but retain a nice rosette at the top. If this is the case, I would choose to get all 'off with its head!' and remove the rosette leaving a good inch or two below of stem that is clear of leaves, allow it to callous over and then repot it into a new pot. I would then (providing they're healthy) remove all remaining leaves on the rooted, headless stem, and leave it in situ - The stem will more than likely kick out new baby rosettes and all leaves, once left to callous over, can be left to do the same by placing on a potting medium to root. ° So in short, you might've started with one deforemed plant, but given some time and patience you will end up with an entire squad of babies that you can share with friends, family or even swap for another plant you want more. Win! 💚
